September 2007

inside SPIN

I have been wondering if I will ever be able to check out new music.

Sotaf Fortunately, a kind soul at Wind Up Records, independent label among other things, left me a comment. First of all, that means I have a new music website to check out and also reminded me that I need to download the latest CD from Stars of Track and Field who played live in Dallas about a month ago.

I think this means I will actually discover some new tunes to spin and of course pass on my recommendations to you!

Books + Literature

I thought I should try to get this blog back on track and post something about books!

While I was on holiday, I managed to finish A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. I would have to say that this is a political book about the period of time in Mumbai when the government cracked down called The Emergency by the Prime Minister, Indira Priyadarshini Gandhi. If this book is any indication of what went on during that time I must say I don't think Mahatma would not have thought very highly of her political iron fist.

I have to say that I liked and felt for the four main characters and many of the sub-characters. But the book does have a lot of bleakness to it. The characters are traumatized by the events which seem to come on as one terrible situation after another, yet they are forced to quietly accept fate and move on. characters are traumatized by the events which they cannot control, they are forced to quietly accept fate and move on.

I was drained, emotionally, by the end. But I wanted to know what final fate was meant for them.

This is certainly not a light-hearted read but certainly a story that was meant to be told and shared.

On a lighter note, I am still in the middle of Hotel Du Lac. I am enjoying it and really like Brookner's style of writing.  I will have to report back once I finish.

I have been thinking about wanting to print a book of photographs for some time using Blurb. I decided that I would use the images from my trip to Honduras as my first book and something was can have as a keepsake for the trip.

Speaking of...here is another image:

Catching up...

I am catching up with myself after being on holiday. It is really hard to get back into the groove of things.

I am working on photos from the trip and wow, there are a lot!

Here are two shots of where we stayed. I hope to get back to normal posting in a few days!

And so the journey began. This shot from the plane window with the coastline of Texas in view. Destination: Honduras.

I always love the beginning of a journey. The anticipation of the days that lie ahead and the leaving behind of the familiar. In some ways it feels as though the soul awakens from sleep and time becomes suspended. Images that begin in monochrome suddenly bloom into technicolor....

(hopefully you won't get too bored with all the travel photos to follow!)

Sayville Beach, Long Island

Well, we returned from our wonderful week in Utila. What a beautiful place! I haven't even had the chance to look at my photographs because we actually got back a day later and after 12 hours of traveling.

Overall it was a great trip and a wonderful way to celebrate our Honeymoon.

More about that later!

We leave tomorrow morning (saturday) for our week long trip to Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras. We couldn't be more excited. We are staying at Utopia Village - a resort our friends dreamed of and made a reality in April. I wonder if we'll ever come back! ;)

Have a great week and I will catch up with everyone soon.....hopefully with lots of photographs and great stories!

I flew home to Dallas last night and we woke up late this morning due to no electricity. We found out that a transformer blew last night at 3am and we are not sure when we will have power again.

Not to mention we are meant to be flying to The Bay Islands in Honduras on Saturday for a week's vacation. So far they think everything is fine but we are waiting to hear confirmation.

Hmmm, don't troubles usually come in 3's???

I need to get some positive vibes sent my way!
